Bangladesh received $2.54 billion (Tk 31,233 crore) in remittance during the first 28 days of June, according to data by the Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Sunday (June 29).
According to BB the country received $90.69 million in remittance daily during this period. In comparison, the daily average in May was $98.99 million, while it was $84.62 million per day in June last year.
Of the total remittance, $556.46 million came through state-owned banks, with Agrani Bank alone receiving $361.23 million.
Private banks brought in the highest share, totaling $1.62 billion in the 28 days.
No remittance was received through several banks including State Bank of India, National Bank of Pakistan, Habib Bank, Padma Bank, ICB Islamic Bank, Citizen Bank, Community Bank, and Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank.
The central bank expects remittance inflows to further increase ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and urges all banks to ensure smooth transactions for expatriates.
