Bangladesh’s overall inflation dropped to 8.48 percent in June 2025, marking the lowest rate in nearly three years, according to the latest data released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on Monday (July 7).
The inflation rate was 9.05 percent in May. The last time inflation was this low was in October 2022, when it stood at 8.91 percent. Since July 2022, inflation had consistently remained above 9 percent until this recent drop.
According to the BBS report, food inflation declined significantly to 7.39 percent in June, compared to 8.59 percent in May. Non-food inflation also decreased slightly to 9.37 percent from 9.42 percent the previous month.
In a verified Facebook post earlier today, the Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Shafiqur Alam, attributed the drop in inflation to the interim government's well-planned policies and strategies.
“In June 2025, point-to-point inflation fell to 8.48 percent, which is 2 percentage points lower than in August 2024,” he wrote.
He further noted that food inflation has dropped to 7.39 percent — the lowest level in two years — while non-food inflation is also showing signs of decline and is expected to decrease further in the coming months.
The latest figures are seen as a positive signal for the country’s economy amid efforts to stabilize prices and support consumers facing high living costs over the past two years.
