Gold prices in Bangladesh reached an all-time high on Monday, crossing the Tk2 lakh mark per bhori (11.664 grams) for the first time, following consistent increases throughout September and early October.

The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (Bajus) announced a Tk3,150 rise for 22-carat gold, setting the new rate at Tk2,00,775 per bhori, effective Tuesday.

According to Bajus’ Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring, the latest hike reflects a rise in the value of pure gold in the local market.

The revised rates, which include a 5% VAT and a 6% minimum wage, are Tk2,00,775 per bhori for 22-carat gold, Tk1,91,605 for 21-carat, Tk1,64,229 for 18-carat, and Tk1,36,445 for traditional (Sanatani) gold.

Bajus had previously set a record on Saturday, when the price of 22-carat gold rose by Tk2,192 to Tk1,97,576 per bhori. So far this year, the association has adjusted gold prices 61 times — with 43 increases and 18 reductions.

The surge in domestic gold prices mirrors the global trend, as international gold rates have crossed $3,900 per ounce for the first time.
