Syngenta signs MoU with PRAN

DHAKA: Syngenta Foundation Bangladesh and PRAN Agro Business Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the PRAN-RFL Group corporate headquarters in Dhaka recently.

The agreement enables PRAN to provide better supports and buy high-quality produce from smallholders, who can therefore earn better incomes.   

Dr. Marco Ferroni, Executive Director of the Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture (SFSA) and Elias Mridha, Director of PRAN signed the MoU on behalf of their organizations.

The matter was disclosed in a press release.

The release also says: “Under this agreement, the partners will build the capacity of 5,000 small and marginal farmers of Natore district in northwestern Bangladesh. They will jointly establish Farmers’ Hubsas information, services and transaction center, and develop contract farming system forfresh vegetables and processed crops.”

Director of PRAN Elias Mridha said, “This agreement will help PRAN to source good agricultural produce and ensure a better return for smallholders.”

Marco Ferroni expressed his delight to be able to extend their existing relationship with PRAN and enable even more farmers in Bangladesh to improve their livelihoods by supplying formal food markets.

Md. Mahtab Uddin, Chief Operating Officer of PRAN Agro Business Limited, Md. Farhad Zamil, Director Bangladesh of Syngenta Foundation Bangladesh, Mr. Robert Berlin, Dr. Partha Das Gupta, Dr. Baskar Raddy, Mr. Clive Murray from Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture (SFSA) and other officials of both organizations were also present in that signing ceremony.
