DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Thursday sent the plaintiff of toxic Paracetamol case to jail for his absence in court for three years after filing case.

Abul Khaier Chowdhury, inspector of drug administration department, was sent to jail as he didn’t appear before the court in spite of several summons, sources told banglanews.

Drug court judge Abdur Rashid passed the order after the plaintiff appeared before the court in the noon.

However, the case statement said that around 76 children were killed during 1990s by taking adulterated Paracetamol syrup with industrial toxic chemicals by manufacturer Adflame.

Drug administration department’s inspector Abul Khaier Chowdhury filed the case against Adflame on January 2, 1993 with the Dhaka Drug Court, in that connection.

The accused are Adflame manager Mizanur Rahman, its director Dr Helan Pasha, one of its owners Azfar Pasha, quality controller Md Noman and Nagendra Nath Bala.

Among them Mizanur and Helan are on bail and the rest are now fugitive.

But, the complainant didn’t place himself before the court for three years in spite of 19 times samans and warrants against him.
