Dockers postpone work abstention at Ctg port

CHITTAGONG: Chittagong Port dockworkers Monday postponed their two-hour work abstention following assurance by the port authorities to meet their demands.

Leaders of Dock Bandar Sramik-Karmachari Federation announced the postponement of their agitation programme on Sunday night after holding a fruitful meeting with the high officials of the port.

Acting Chairman and member (Engineering) Captain Anwarul Karim Chowdhury and federation president Golam Mohammad Chowdhury led their respective sides in the meeting.

The dockworkers of Chittagong Port on Saturday announced a series of agitation programme including work abstention to press home their four-point demand including reinstatement of their terminated colleagues.

Their demands also include the booking of labourers by rotation through a booking centre, reintroduction of labour-welfare activities under labour department and the reopening of the closed residential quarters in port areas.

Organizing secretary of the federation Md. Alamgir said, “We’ve postponed Monday’s programme as the port authorities assured us of issuing official order to meet our four-point demand.

The programme woul be called off on receiving the official order, he added.

Confirming a decision of issuing the office order, Secretary of the Ctg Port Authorities Sayed Md. Farhaduddin said, “The order will certainly be issued on Monday.”
