KERANIGANJ: An awareness building campaign on safe use of Liquid Petroleum (LP) gas of Bashundhara LP Gas Limited (BLPGL), one of the concerns of country’s leading conglomerate Bashundhara Group, was held in Keraniganj on Saturday.

The 14th campaign titled ‘Nirapad Nibash (Safe Home)’ was arranged at Ruposhi Bangla Community Center in Keraniganj with the presence of 46 housewives.

General Manager (Sales) of BLPGL and SICL, Mir TI Faruk, Manager of Dhaka section Atonu Kundu, local distributor Arif Mohammad were among others present at the function.

Addressing the function, Mir TI Faruk said this is a social awareness campaign of Bashundhara group. The main goal of the campaign is to aware some 50 lakh women in the country, he added.

The speakers put emphasize on the reasons and remedies of LP gas cylinder blasts in the program.

The speakers said the distributors should maintain the quality to avert explosions of LP gas cylinder. Besides, awareness should be increased among the users as well.

They also suggested the users to enclose the cap of the cylinder always. They also said that regulator should be switched off after every use, the cylinder should be kept far from sun and rain and the cylinder should not be kept in an airtight room to ensure the safe use of LP gas.

According to the Gas Cylinder Act-1991, the gas cylinders need to be retested after every five years.

However, many companies lack the facility of retesting and maintaining qualities. They are selling the low quality and dilapidated gas cylinders to the consumers without testing properly.

Speakers, at the event, said that some dishonest businessmen are refilling unauthorized gas and selling in markets. They also urged the consumers to buy cylinders from authorized dealers and retailers.

According to them, public awareness should be increased to halt the use of unauthorized and unsafe cylinders.

They suggested the dealers to buy their cylinders only from authorized dealers and retailers.

The speakers also suggested the housewives to monitor the expiry date before purchasing gas cylinders.

Apart from Keraniganj, the ‘Nirapad Nibash’ campaign has already been held in Mirpur, Savar, Gajipur, Chapainawabganj, Kushtia, Bogra, Natore, Dinajpur, Jheenidah, Jessore, Naogaon and Rajshahi districts.

As part of the awareness campaign, Bashundhara LP Gas has been conducting awareness building programs in districts and upazilas across the country.
