NATORE: The workers and employees of Natore Sugar Mills staged demonstrations Monday to press for declaration of a separate wage scale for them.
As part of their agitation plan, they brought out a protest procession at about 8 am and demonstrated on the factory premises.
Later, leaders of the Mill Workers-Employees Union intervened and pacified the agitated workers.
General secretary of the union Wazed Ali told banglanews that angry employees and workers of the mill brought out the procession to realize their demand.
Managing Director of the Mill Sirajul Islam said, “The workers abstained from work in the morning and joined the demonstration. But they returned to work later.”
Regarding the wage scale, he said the government is working to form wage commission for country’s all sugar mills. “The wage commission is expected by October this year,” he added.
Earlier on Saturday, the workers and employees of the North Bengal Sugar Mills in Lalpur upazila staged a sit-in demonstration to press the same demand.
