DHAKA: Tea prices showed a little change at a weekly auction on Tuesday due to weak demand from local buyers, as sales volume also dropped in spite of a fall in supplies.
The average price of tea was Tk 195.08 ($2) per kg against Tk 195.22 in the previous sales, said an official of National Brokers Limited.
Nearly 2.1 million kg of tea was offered in a Chittagong auction centre, with 32 percent remaining unsold.
In a previous auction 2.3 million kg tea was offered and 14 percent remained unsold.
National Brokers said, “The market opened on a fairly high note on better liquoring types but demand slackened towards the end and a large amount of tea was withdrawn.”
Bangladesh produces around 60 million kg of tea a year against an internal demand of 56 million kg.
