HC issues rule against BB governor Atiur

DHAKA: The High Court on Tuesday issued a rule against Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman and general manager (banking control division).

The court asked them to explain within two weeks why legal action should not be taken against them for disobeying court order.

An HC bench comprising Justice M Ashraful Islam and M Ashraful Kamal passed the order.

The court sources said that Power Development Board (PDB) gave six cheques amounting Tk 3206,725 to International Design and Contractor (IDC). Later, Standard Chartered Bank withdrew the cheques.

On November 29 in 2012, IDC applied to Bangladesh Bank for the money and interest. But, the central bank did not take any step. Then IDC filed a petition with the High Court.

On February 11 of 2013, HC order BB to settle the mater within one month. Later, IDC file a petition of court contempt when BB did not obey the order.
