DHAKA: Prime Bank, a private commercial bank of the country, on Saturday awarded scholarship to 394 talents who are underprivileged.
In this regard, an Award Giving Ceremony was organized at the LGED Auditorium in the city to handover the stipends of its ‘Education Support Programe’.
Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Atiur Rahman was present in the program as the Chief Guest while Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed was present as the Special Guest.
Chairman of Prime Bank Limited M Nader Khan presided over the function.
Managing Director and CEO of the Bank M Ehsan Khasru delivered the welcome address.
Chairman of the Executive Committee of Prime Bank Foundation KM Khaled spoke on the platform for formation of the Foundation while former Chairman of Prime Bank Azam J Chowdhury spoke on the occasion as the Special Speaker.
Chairman of Prime Bank Foundation M Shahadat Hossain gave the vote of thanks. Chief Executive Officer of Prime Bank Foundation Dr Iqbal Anwar explained the stipend distribution process and overall activities of the Foundation this year.
Also present among others were Chairman of the Executive Committee of Prime Bank Tanjil Chowdhury, Director Nazma Haque, Former Directors Hasina Khan and Firoza Amin.
This year a total of 394 students of the country received long term and renewable stipends Tk 2,400 per month which will continue till the end of their studies. Receiving this stipend the poor but meritorious students got the assurance of finishing their higher studies successfully.
Inspiring the students, Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed said, “Our beloved country in not in good situation. You have to take the responsibility to move ahead. You have that ability.”
Addressing the function, Dr Atiur said, “We have program and culprit. But fighting against them we have go forward.”
It should be mentioned that under the ‘Education Support Programme’ the Foundation awarded a total of 1,671 students till date including 170 students in 2007, 122 in 2008, 198 in 2009, 196 in 2010, 205 in 2011, 386 students in 2012 and 394 this year. Also noteworthy that all the stipend receiver students of the First Batch (year 2007) of the Prime Bank Foundation have finished their education and been employed in different professions.
Apart from the commercial banking operations, Prime Bank Limited through its Foundation is simultaneously playing a pivotal role in the society through Education Support Programme, Prime Campus - an English Medium School, Prime Bank Eye Hospital, Prime Bank Nursing Institute and Prime Bank Cricket Club.
Formed in 2002 in accordance with the Companies Act 1994, Prime Bank Foundation is a non-profit organization of Prime Bank Limited that is committed to supporting the underprivileged people of the country, as a part of the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibilities. The Foundation facilitates the poor and unaffordable people with the medical and academic requisites as their basic human needs with the objective to establish them with social dignity and honor.
The awarded students and their guardians expressed their feelings in the program.
