DHAKA: Due to poor production, only offshore gas field of the country, Sangu, was closed down permanently on Tuesday.

Sangu gas field is located at about 50-km southwest of Chittagong district.

Director of Petrobangla Mohammad Imaduddin said, “The operator of the field Santos, an Australian oil and gas exploration company, officially informed us about the closure.”

He also said that Sangu could produce only 2.5 million cubic feet gas a day.

Santos officials said that the well would not be economically viable if its output fell to 15 mmcfd.
