Bangladesh-India parcel train service begins

DHAKA: Parcel train service between Bangladesh and India has begun for the first time in a bid to speed up the bilateral trade between the two neighboring countries.

The first parcel train carrying dry Chillies from Andhra Pradesh, India arrived at Benapole port, said press release from Indian High Commission in Dhaka on Monday (July 13).

Indian Railways dispatched a special parcel train consisting of 16 high capacity vans carrying around 384 tonnes of dry chilies to Bangladesh.

The Special Parcel Express (SPE) traveled over 1,372 kilometers of distance from Reddipalem in Guntur, India to Benapole in Bangladesh.

Trade between India and Bangladesh had been affected as the transport services between the two countries got disrupted due to COVID-19 related restrictions since March 2020.

It is expected that Parcel Train Service will be beneficial in boosting trade between both countries.
