IUB chess players Amit Bikram Roy (Computer Science and Engineering) and Justin Matthias (General Management) have secured a resounding victory in the Team Battle of the Summer Season Collegiate League. 

This prestigious tournament, sponsored by the leading online chess platform Chess.com and Sig, brought together 46 universities worldwide, making it a highly competitive event.

Held during August 3-5, 2024, the competition saw the IUB team emerge victorious against Masaryk University (Czech Republic) in a thrilling final round. Prior to this, they secured hard-fought wins over the University of Bath (UK) in the semifinals and Stevens Institute of Technology (USA) in the quarterfinals.

The duo's success can be attributed in part to the mentorship of Grandmaster Niaz Murshed, the first Grandmaster of South Asia and an advisor of lUB Chess Club.
