The university administration has unveiled the timeline for the much-anticipated Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections, with the formation of the Election Commission set for mid-May. 

However, the exact election date remains unconfirmed.

The timeline was disclosed in a notification signed by Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Acting Director of the University's Public Relations Department, on Tuesday (April 15).

The notification emphasized the importance of DUCSU within the university’s governance structure, noting strong student interest in the upcoming elections. 

The administration has expressed its commitment to ensuring the process is organized in a fair and transparent manner.

Since December 2024, the university has engaged in consultations with various stakeholders to facilitate a free and credible election. 

The administration has also published a roadmap outlining the progress and steps taken towards ensuring the election is conducted smoothly.

The discussions surrounding the DUCSU elections began last December, with the constitution finalized and shared with student organizations in the same month. 

Six meetings were held prior to this, and the constitution now awaits approval from the university's syndicate.

Additionally, a Code of Conduct Review Committee was established in January, holding seven meetings to finalize the guidelines. 

These documents are now being reviewed by student organizations and will be completed by the end of this month. Ongoing consultations with faculty deans, provosts, and department chairs are also part of the preparations.

The university plans to appoint the Election Commission, Returning Officer, and Assistant Returning Officer by mid-May. 

The Election Commission will then finalize the voter list with administrative assistance before determining the election activities' specific timeline. The exact month for the election remains yet to be decided.
