DU student dies after Facebook post apologizing for ‘mistakes’ Sanju Baraik

A student of Dhaka University died early Monday (July 14) after reportedly jumping from the rooftop of Rabindra Bhavan at Jagannath Hall, just hours after posting an apologetic message on social media.

The deceased, Sanju Baraik, was a student of the Department of Anthropology from the 2020–21 academic session.

Dhaka University Proctor, Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, confirmed the incident, saying it occurred between 5:30 am and 6:00 am on Monday.

Several students from the hall said Sanju jumped from the rooftop of the newly constructed Rabindra Bhavan.

Roughly five hours before the incident, Sanju had posted a message on Facebook in which he appeared to express remorse and seek forgiveness.

“I have realized my mistake. I have disturbed someone day after day. It was not right for me to blame others while covering up my faults,” he wrote.

“I apologize to everyone. If anyone has suffered any harm because of me, I take full responsibility.”

The circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation.
