Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) held a commemorative event titled “Memoirs of the July Movement” on July 17, marking the first anniversary of the historic mass uprising.
The event, held at the university’s DMK Lecture Gallery, brought together students, faculty, and staff members to reflect on their experiences and share personal accounts of the historic events.
One of the key objectives was to begin documenting the individual and collective memories of those directly involved in the movement, with a view to an academic publication.
While sharing his experiences and thoughts from July 2024, Vice Chancellor Prof. M. Tamim said after having led the movement, it was now up to the youth of the country, especially the students, to continue to pilot the country in the right direction.
This event marked the start of a series of programmes that IUB has lined up to observe the first anniversary of the July Movement.
These include an academic seminar, musical and theatrical performances, exhibitions of photography, painting and installation art, a painting competition, and a community cleanliness drive in the Bashundhara Residential Area.
Chess and futsal tournaments will also be held as part of the observance.
