Authorities have imposed Section 144 at Chittagong University (CU) and surrounding areas to contain clashes between students and local villagers.

Hathazari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdullah Al Mumin confirmed the matter to the media. Section 144 prohibits the gathering of four or more people in a single place.

Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Chattogram range, Ahsan Habib Palash, said clashes were continuing intermittently. “Neither side is listening to calls for de-escalation,” he added, noting that authorities are making ongoing efforts to resolve the crisis.

Over 100 students and two teachers from the CU proctorial team were injured past midnight on Sunday when clashes erupted following a quarrel between a female student and the gatekeeper of a building near the university campus.
