CU exams suspended until September 4  Chittagong University

Authorities at the Chittagong University (CU) have suspended all scheduled examinations across departments and institutes until September 4, following violent clashes between students and local residents.

The announcement came in an official notice signed by Acting Controller of Examinations, Professor Momtaz Uddin Ahmed, around 1:00 PM on Monday (September 1).

The notice stated that new dates for the postponed exams will be announced in due course.

The unrest began late on the night of August 30, after a female student was reportedly harassed near Gate 2 of the university.

The incident triggered a wave of student protests beginning the next morning (August 31), which escalated into a renewed clash around noon at the same location.

In the ensuing violence, scores of students were injured, including university officials such as the pro-vice-chancellor and the proctor.

To bring the situation under control, authorities imposed Section 144 — banning public gatherings — on campus until midnight on September 1. Law enforcement agencies were also deployed to maintain order.
