Govt to scrap private school committees from Dec 1

The Ministry of Education has announced that all governing bodies and managing committees of private educational institutions in Bangladesh will be dissolved effective December 1.

The directive was issued on Monday (Sept 8) through a circular from the Secondary and Higher Education Division’s Private Secondary-1 branch.

According to the circular, the decision follows the Private Secondary and Higher Secondary Educational Institutions Governing Body and Managing Committee Regulations, 2024 (with amendments dated August 31, 2025).

Under these provisions — Rule 75(2) for Dhaka Education Board and Rule 74(2) for other education boards — the boards are instructed to oversee the formation of either ad hoc or regular committees in place of the current governing bodies.

The ministry further stated that institutions where ad hoc committees had been formed under a November 18, 2023 notification must establish regular committees by November 30. This requirement also applies to institutions where ad hoc committees are still in operation.

For institutions that have not yet formed ad hoc committees, the directive orders their formation within the next 15 days, followed by the establishment of regular committees before the end of November. All existing ad hoc committees will cease to function from December 1.

The circular also made it clear that the head of any institution failing to comply with these directives will be held responsible and face action under existing regulations.
