Dhaka University set for DUCSU elections under tight security

Dhaka University is set to hold elections for its Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall councils on Tuesday (Sept 9), with police implementing a three-tier security system to ensure a peaceful vote.

Law enforcement officials said security measures were put in place from Monday morning and will remain in effect through Wednesday.

A police control room has been established at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) to coordinate operations.

Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam told local media that campaigning had concluded and authorities were confident the elections would proceed smoothly.

He said, “A sufficient number of police officers have been deployed across the campus. Law enforcement will be present at the university boundaries, patrolling the area, and stationed at polling centres. We are on constant alert to prevent any disruption.”

The DUCSU Election Commission, headed by the chief returning officer, will supervise the polls, while security forces operate under its instructions to guarantee voters can cast their ballots freely.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali, addressing a coordination meeting at police headquarters on Monday, warned that any attempt to sabotage the election would be met with strict action.
