Polling for the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) is currently in progress, as students returned to the ballot boxes on Tuesday (September 9) to elect their representatives in one of the country’s most significant student bodies.

Voting began promptly at 8:00am, with students from various academic years lining up at designated centres across the university.

Many cast their votes with visible enthusiasm, marking a key moment in student engagement at the historic institution.

In a move to ensure transparency, ballot boxes at eight polling centres were unsealed at 7:30am in full view of polling agents and journalists.

After the empty boxes were presented for inspection, they were formally sealed under tight supervision.

At the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, the central polling station, Chief Returning Officer Professor Golam Rabbani oversaw the sealing of two distinct ballot boxes—one for the central union and another for hall-level elections.

“You have all witnessed that the boxes were completely empty before being sealed,” he told observers, stressing the fairness of the process. “The larger box is for the central union and the smaller one is for the hall elections. These will only be opened for counting in the presence of all concerned after voting ends.”

Students from Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall, Bijoy Ekattor Hall, and Sir AF Rahman Hall are voting at the Senate Building polling station.

The DUCSU election, a rare occurrence in recent decades, remains a focal point of student political activity and is seen as a vital exercise in democratic representation within the university.
