A Dhaka court today granted bail to actress Nusraat Faria in connection with a case related to the July uprising.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after a hearing on her bail petition.
Faria had been sent to jail yesterday in connection with the attempted murder case.
Her lawyer, Iftekhar, submitted travel documents showing she was in Canada between July 9 and August 13—when the incident occurred in Dhaka’s Bhatara area.
The arrest has sparked strong criticism from artistes and cultural figures, especially those who supported the July uprising.
Faria was arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and brought to court under tight security.
The case was filed on March 27 by Enamul Haque, who was injured in the July 19 protests. The complaint names deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, 17 actors, and 265 others.
