FROM RUSSIAN CULTURAL CENTER: Much awaited grunge festival shaked the hall room with amazing extravaganza at Russian Cultural Center in city on Friday.

The musical program ‘Grunge-fest’ started from Friday noon and continued till 8:00pm. The main theme of the program was ‘Grunge is not dead’.

A total of six bands -- Arbovirus, Indalo, Karnival, Owned, Circle and Hash -- performed at the festival, organised by country’s leading online news portal Banglanews24.com.

Vinyl Group and Igloo sponsored the carnival while Radio Swadhin was its media partner.

Grunge (sometimes referred to as the Seattle Music) is a subgenre of alternative rock that emerged during the mid 1980s in the American state of Washington, particularly in the Seattle area.

Inspired by hardcore punk, heavy metal, and alternative rock, grunge is generally characterized by heavily distorted electric guitars, contrasting song dynamics, ‘growling’ vocals and apathetic or angst-filled lyrics.

The grunge aesthetic is stripped-down compared with other forms of rock music, and many grunge musicians were noted for their unkempt appearances and rejection of theatrics.
