Photo display on rule of law begins Monday

DHAKA: A global photography exhibition on the challenges of rule of law and sustainable development will open at the United Nations Office in Geneva Monday.

International Development Law Organization (IDLO) will arrange the show titled “In Focus: Justice and the Post 2015 Agenda - A Photo Journey” with the support of the UN Permanent Missions of Italy, the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Paraguay.

Acclaimed Bangladeshi photographer Shahidul Alam of Dhaka-based photography agency Majority World will curate the exhibition launching ceremony, to be held ahead of the opening of the UN Human Rights Council Meeting in Geneva.

The show, continuing till March 19, will be complemented by informal discussions related to the Human Rights Council dialogue and including new thinking on the post-2015 development agenda.

“Justice and the Post-2015 Agenda,” will feature different complex themes through 35 images – taken by photographers from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Brazil, India and Kenya – ranging from the forests of Colniza, Brazil, where illegal logging is facilitated by an absence of land tenure, to the energy starved metropolis of Kibera, Africa’s largest slum.

Acting Director of the UN Office in Geneva Michael Møller, IDLO Director-General lrene Khan and representatives from the Permanent Missions are expected to attend the event.
