Dhaka: The traditional spring festival ‘Holi’, also called as the festival of colors or the festival of love, was celebrated with the flavor of Indian classical music by Dr Saurav Nahar.

Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre organized the soiree at 6:30pm on Saturday at IGCC in city’s Gulshan area.

In the event, Nahar presented thumri ‘Babul Mora Naihar’ in Raag Bhairavi.

He also presented the song ‘Kahe Maan Karo’ with Raag Yaman in vilambit ektaal, ‘Ari Maie Kaise’ with madhya laya tin taal and ‘Jina Choovo Langarva’ with drut ektaal.

In this program, he was accompanied with Iftekhar Alam Prodhan Dollar on tabla, Tinku Shil on harmonium and Ratul Basak and Shuvo karmaker on tanpura.

It was Nahar’s last performance in Bangladesh prior to leave the country.

However, Nahar, presently working as a vocal teacher-cum-performer at IGCC, Dhaka, is one of the foremost exponents of Bhagalpur Sangeet Gharana and being trained under the guidance of his father Guru Pandit Sangeet Kumar Nahar.

Born in 1984 in Bihar, Nahar hails from a family of great musical maestros like late Pandit Prahalad Prasad Mishra (his grandfather) and has trained under late Pandit Ram Naresh Mishra.

He had his MA in music from Delhi University and obtained his doctorate degree from Indira Kala Sangit University, Khairagarh.

Dr Nahar is blessed with the basic instinct of a khayal singer. He has an uncanny knack of performing Khayal gayaki in its myriad forms with great skill and adroitness. He, who is an ‘A’ grade artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan, has a very well cultivated voice.
