Bangladesh Art and Culture Week held in Bangkok

DHAKA: Bangladesh ambassador to Thailand SaidaMunaTasneem said that her country is very excited to have launched the first ever ‘Bangladesh Art and Culture Week 2016’ in Bangkok.

She made this assertion while inaugurating the first Bangladesh-Thailand Joint Art Camp ‘AMITY’ from March 22 to 30 at Thailand’s prestigious art gallery, the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre.

The artworks produced in the joint art camp by nine eminent Bangladesh artists and nine senior Thai artists will be inaugurated in an Art Exhibition on the 29th of March at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre by Thailand culture minister.

“The ‘Art and Culture Week’ will also include a colorful cultural program by prominent music and dance artists from Bangladesh at the prestigious Royal Wangna Theatre in Bangkok on March 26, on the occasion of the 45th Independence day of Bangladesh and a special cultural presentation by the 24-member cultural troupe from Bangladesh during a diplomatic reception on the occasion of the 45th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh.

A painting exhibition by nine eminent Bangladeshi artists will also be inaugurated by Thailand’s labor minister on March 28 at Dusit Thani hotel in Bangkok.

Art works of nine prominent Bangladeshi artists will be in display in the joint exhibition including late Khalid Mahmood Mithu, Kanak Chapa Chakma, Farida Zaman, Afroza Jamil Konka, KamruzzamanShwadeen, FarzanaRipa, Salma ZakiaBristy, SaminaNafis, ShamimaNafis, Shameem Subrana.

Also art works of nine Thai artists - KrirkburaYomnage, PhansaBuddharaksa, SongchaiBuachum, SukmarlLekswat, Supat Wattanapikowit, Waraporn Khantasirifrom Thailand’s top art schools, Chulalongkorn and Shilpakorn University will be displayed.

It may be mentioned that this art camp and exhibition was originally panned by eminent artist late Khaled Mahmood Mithu who met a tragic death.

The organizers dedicated the first joint Art Camp and Exhibition between Bangladesh and Thailand as a tribute to late Khalid Mahmud Mithu who was the key driving forces behind the art camp project.

On March 26, ShakilaJafar and SI Tutul will perform at the Royal Wangna Theatre in Bangkok together with renowned Dance Director Tamanna Rahman and her troupe where more than 500 expatriate Bangladeshis will be enjoying their performances.

“We have arranged the Bangladesh Art and Culture Week to showcase Bangladesh’s Art and Culture to the Thai people with a view to portraying a progressive, liberal and culturally vibrant image of Bangladesh and of its people to Thailand, its elites and its common people” ambassador Tasneem said.

This would be the first Bangladesh art and culture week in the country’s 44th years of diplomatic relations with Thailand.

Bangladesh foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali has issued a good will message on the occasion.
