Film director Shahidul Islam Khokon dies

DHAKA: Noted film director of Bangladesh, Shahidul Islam Khokon, breathed his last at a hospital in city’s Uttara area on Monday (April 04).

He was under treatment here for a long time.

Current President of Bangladesh Film Directors Association Shahidul Islam Khokon is known for his films like Chehara: Vondo-2 (2010), Vondo (1998) and Taka (2005).

He was suffering from Motor Neurone Disease (ALS), a progressive disease involving degeneration of the motor neurons and wasting of the muscles, in the internal part of his mouth.

Incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited a shooting spot while he was working on a movie, Bojromusthi, in 1990 at Kulaura.

Khokon sold his own residence in the city’s Uttara area around 16 years ago for making Palabi Kothai, a film on women empowerment.

He also made a film, Ghatok, against the war criminals, and a movie, Laal Sabuj, against Bangla Bhai.

Rokter Bondi was his first directed movie.
