Nayak Raj Razzak laid to eternal rest

DHAKA: Legendary actor-director of Bangla filmdom Nayak Raj Razzak who died at a city hospital Monday (August 21), was laid to rest Wednesday (August 23).

He was buried in Dhaka’s Banani Graveyard at around 10:15am.

On Tuesday, his two namaz-e-janazas were held at Azad Mosque in Gulshan and Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) respectively.

Hundreds of people from all walks of life thronged Central Shaheed Minar and paid their last tributes to their beloved film hero there.

Noted personalities from different quarters of the country including politicians, cultural figures and activists bid farewell to Razzak, at the program organised by Sammalito Sangskritik Jote.

Razzak died of a cardiac arrest at the age of 75, at United Hospital in Dhaka at around 06:10pm Monday.

According to the hospital sources, "Razzak was taken to the hospital at around 5:20 pm where the on-duty doctors declared him dead around 6:10pm." 

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock at the death of the renowned film star. 

Razzak was born on Jan 23 in 1942 at Nagtola in Taliganj of Kolkata. He loved acting from his schooldays and also worked on stage in the early days. He first stood in front of the camera for the film “Shilalipi”.

In 1964, he moved to Dhaka and met Abdul Jabbar Khan, producer of the film “Mukh O Mukhosh”. He later got a job at the production house Iqbal Films with the help of Jabbar.

Some of his notable works are “Abirbhab”, “Bashori”, “Etotuku Asha” “Nil Akhasher Niche”, “Je Agune Puri”, “Moinamothi”, “Dwip Neva Nai”, “Sharalipi”, “Ashikkhit”, “Chutir Ghanta” and more.
