DHAKA: UN’s special envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi says the conference on Syrian peace will open on January 22 in a Swiss town of Montreux.
This is according to the UN’s tweet which has confirmed the exact place and date of the long-awaited peace talks, reports The Voice of Russia.
On Friday, Russia’s UN ambassador Vitaly Churkin announced that the negotiations were to take place in a Swiss town nestled in a sheltered Lake Geneva bay, and not in Geneva, as it was anticipated.
The conference to settle the Syrian crisis was brokered by Russia and the US, with Iran allegedly on the list of mediators.
