Israel has killed at least 97 Palestinians and wounded 230 in Gaza since the start of the current ceasefire, the Gaza Government Media Office said, accusing Israel of breaching the truce 80 times.

The Israeli military carried out a wave of air raids on Sunday that it said were a response to a ceasefire violation by Hamas—an allegation the group denied.

Despite the strikes, President Donald Trump said the ceasefire “is still in place” and that Washington is working to keep the situation “very peaceful.”

Multiple outlets reported the administration’s position as Israel indicated it would resume enforcement of the truce after the retaliatory raids.

Casualty figures in Gaza remain contested and fluid. Independent tallies compiled from Gaza health authorities and humanitarian monitors indicate at least 68,000 Palestinians have been killed and roughly 170,000 wounded since the war began in October 2023.

Israeli officials say 1,139 people were killed in Israel in the October 7, 2023 attacks, with about 200 taken captive; widely used reference figures put Israeli fatalities from that day at around 1,200 after subsequent revisions.

As both sides traded accusations over the latest escalation, Israel said its aircraft targeted Hamas positions following an attack that killed two soldiers in Rafah, while Hamas maintained it remained committed to the truce and denied authorizing any assault. International mediators urged restraint amid fears that the ceasefire could unravel.
