DHAKA: Road communications snapped on 10 internal routes of Barisal as the district Bus Owners’ Association Tuesday went on an indefinite strike on Tuesday morning, putting commuters into endless sufferings.

Bus strike was enforced in protest against the launch of a bus service in Uzirpur upazila, association sources said.

A meeting between the district administration and the Association was in progress in the afternoon.

General Secretary of the Association Alamgir Hossain said traffic on 10 internal routes of Barisal from Nuthullabad Bus terminal would remain suspended “until next decision is taken”.

He also said the Association enforced the strike as lawmaker from Barisal-2 Monirul Islam Moni inaugurated the new bus service from Ujirpur to Satla via Shanuhar on 16 June ignoring Barisal Bus Owners Association.

“There is no provision for launching bus service without consent of the owners’ association, and it will create indiscipline,” he added.

In this regard, MP Monirul Islam Moni’s reaction was not found as he is now in the USA.
