President Mohammed Shahabuddin has agreed in principle to the deployment of armed forces in the upcoming 12th parliamentary election slated for January 7.

The president gave the approval during a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal at Bangabhaban in Dhaka on Sunday (December 17).

EC Secretary Md Jahangir Alam informed the reporters about the latest development following the meeting.

Earlier in the morning, the CEC went to meet the president to make a request for army deployment in the general election.
