Gold worth Tk1.28 crore recovered at Chattogram airport

Members of National Security Intelligence (NSI) and Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) recovered gold bars valued at approximately Tk1.28 crore hidden inside a cigarette packet.

The gold was recovered in a joint drive conducted at 10 am on Friday (26 January) by NSI and CIID team.

Customs intelligence and investigation directorate revenue officer Al Amin Pradhan confirmed the matter.

He said the operation targeted flight number-G9526, which arrived from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, at 9:19am.

"The 14 gold bars, weighing 1600 grams in total, were found on the international arrival conveyor belt number two in an abandoned state," he said. 

He also said the gold bars were expertly concealed with silver-coloured scotch tape inside a cigarette packet.

Legal actions regarding the seized gold are currently in progress, he added.
