The Chinese Embassy in Dhaka hosted a grand reception on September 17 to mark the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 50th anniversary of China-Bangladesh diplomatic relations.
Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen addressed the event, which was attended by more than 600 guests, including Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, who delivered a video message, Finance Adviser Dr Salahuddin Ahmed, who was chief guest, and Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, who attended as special guest.
Senior military officials, political leaders, diplomats, representatives of international organisations, Chinese institutions, Confucius Institute teachers and students, media professionals, and members of the Chinese community in Bangladesh were also present.
Ambassador Yao Wen highlighted that 2025 not only marks the 76th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China but also the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.
He underscored China’s contributions to global peace and development, including the elimination of absolute poverty, and stressed that China would remain a force for stability and progress.
He also referred to President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative, which he said has received broad international support, including from Bangladesh.
Yao described the past five decades of China-Bangladesh relations as a period of mutual respect and win-win cooperation, reiterating Beijing’s commitment to support Bangladesh’s modernisation efforts and deepen the countries’ comprehensive partnership.
In his message, Chief Adviser Yunus congratulated China on its national day and praised its achievements in economic growth, technological innovation, and poverty alleviation. He described China as Bangladesh’s closest friend and most reliable partner, pledging to work together for peace and prosperity.
The event featured cultural performances by the Yunnan Golden & Silver Bird Art Troupe and the Quanzhou Art Troupe, as well as photo exhibitions and thematic displays showcasing China-Bangladesh relations and Chinese culture.
