At least three construction workers were killed by electrocution at Durgapur union under Begumganj upazila in Noakhali on Thursday (February 1).

The deceased are Shakil, 20, Riaz, 28 and Kamrul, 30.

According to locals, the first phase of the work of a private under-construction building adjacent to Durgapur Govt Primary School began and five people started pilling works there at about 9:00am.

Later, two workers went to have some snacks at about 12 noon, while the other three workers were working. At one point, when they started lifting pipe for piling from mud, they died by electrocution with electric wire, said locals.

However, after the incident two workers recovered them and rushed them to a nearby where the duty doctor declared them dead, local people said.

Begumganj police station officer-in-charge Md Anwarul Islam confirmed the matter.

‘The bodies are kept at Begumganj Upazila Health Complex. We will take legal action after looking into the matter,’ the OC added.
