Three people were arrested for allegedly killing of a woman and her 8-year-old son at Dighulia village under Chatmohar upazila in Pabna.
The arrestees were Saddam Hossain, 26, a resident of Dhupulia village of upazila, his elder brother Hosen Ali, 37, and Humayun Mizi, 28, a resident of Khankhanapur Dattapara village of Rajbari district. Saddam and Humayun have several other cases.
Superintendent of Police in Pabna Akbar Ali Munshi disclosed the matter at a press conference at his office on Thursday (February 1).
He said that the trio entered the house of a Malaysian expatriate Abdur Rashid for robbery on January 25. But the victims Laboni Khatun, 35, and her son Riyad Hossain, 8, saw them and began to shout for help.
It might have forced them to kill the Laboni and Riyad, he added.
On January 26, police recovered the bodies of Laboni from the kitchen and Riyad hanging from a tree adjacent to their house.
Brother of Laboni filed a case against some unidentified people in this connection.
According to the given information of the arrestees, Laboni had withdrawn money from a bank. She brought 25,000 bricks for the construction of their house and rest of the amount kept in her house.
Hosen Ali informed the matter to his younger brother Saddam and another associate Humayun. According to their plan they entered the house at around 1am by cutting the tin shed house but the victims saw them and started screaming.
So they strangulated the Laboni and Riyad to death. The accused later took away golden ear rings, bangles, and other valuables.
Using the technology surveillance, police identified the accused and conducted drives in areas of the country and arrested them.
