Youth gets 6 years jail for cyber crimes in Rajshahi

A trial tribunal in Rajshahi today (February 7) convicted a youth and sentenced him to jail for six years for his involvement in cyber crimes around one year and two months back.

The convict is Mijanur Rahman Tuhin, 26, son of Belal Uddin of Chatra Chodyamatha village under Shibganj upazila in chapainawabganj district.

He was also fined Taka three lakh, in default to pay he will suffer nine months more behind the bar.

Judge of Cyber Tribunal Ziaur Rahman found the convict guilty of the charge and pronounced the verdict this noon.

Special Public Prosecutor of the tribunal Ismat Ara told the journalists that the youth had opened a fake facebook account and uploaded some objectionable photographs and videos of his female classmate from November 20-22.

Being aggrieved she lodged a case with Shibganj Police Station on January 5, 2023. Police subsequently arrested Tuhin. Upon completion of investigation police pressed charges accusing him.

Ismat Ara also said the youth has been convicted and sentenced in three separate sections of Digital Security Act-2018.
