Pahela Falgun & Valentine's Day merge in colorful celebration

Pahela Falgun, a vibrant festival heralding the arrival of spring, is joyously celebrated nationwide with a kaleidoscope of yellow attire, delicate flower ornaments, and melodious traditional performances.

Known also as Basanta Utsab, Pahela Falgun marks the onset of the Bengali month of Falgun, a time when nature rejuvenates and bursts forth in a riot of colours, as depicted eloquently in poetry where spring reigns supreme among seasons.

Following the hibernation of winter, the landscape comes alive anew, adorned with fresh leaves and blossoms such as the enchanting Shimul, Polash, and Marigold.

In a delightful coincidence since 2020, Pahela Falgun converges with Valentine’s Day on February 14, adding an extra layer of festivity to the already cherished occasion, particularly embraced by the spirited Bangladeshi youth.

Bedecked in vibrant yellow sarees and panjabis, people, especially the young, flock to iconic locales like Dhaka University campus, Ramna Park, Suhrawardy Udyan, Rabindra Sarobar, Dhanmondi Lake, and Hatirjheel, infusing these spaces with the infectious energy of celebration.

Throughout the capital, various organizations orchestrate a plethora of events, including music festivals, on the sprawling grounds of Dhaka University, providing ample opportunities for revelry and cultural enrichment.

To mark the occasion, eateries across the country roll out special offers, enticing customers with delectable treats, while flower markets bustle with activity as they stock up on crimson roses, a perennial symbol of love, for the romantic festivities ahead.
