Faridpur’s Rubel among 2 jailed for 17 years in Arms case

A Faridpur court on Sunday (February 18) sentenced expelled Faridpur Press Club president Imtiaz Hasan Rubel and his associate Rezaul Karim Bipul to 17 years imprisonment in Arms Act case.

Faridpur Additional District and Sessions Judge Ashok Kumar Dutta passed the verdict today.

According to the case statement, the two were jailed for 10 years for keeping guns under section 19 (A) and for 7 years for keeping bullets under section 19 (F).

Public prosecutor Nowab Ali confirmed the matter.

Rubel and his brother Sajjad Hossain Barkat, expelled general secretary of Faridpur City Awami League, along with their nine associates were arrested from Badarpur in Faridpur town at night on June 7, 2023. At that time, money, drugs, and seven loaded arms were seized from their possessions. On June 8, Kotwali Police Station's sub-inspector Sakhawat Hossain and sub-inspector Abdul Jabbar filed two separate cases against them under the Arms Act. After investigation, the charges in both the cases were submitted to the court on June 27 and June 30 respectively.

Besides, 11 other cases were filed against them on various charges.
