The 37th death anniversary of valiant freedom fighter AKM Shamsuzzoha, a leading organiser of the liberation movement, is being observed today (February 20) with due respect and solemnity.
He was one of the founders of Bangladesh Awami League and a close associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Shamsuzzoha, a former lawmaker and a recipient (posthumous) of Swadhinata Padak, was a member of Gano Parishad and later elected Member of Parliament after the country’s independence.
Shamsuzzoha was born in a renowned Osman family in the country. His father Khan Shaheb Osman Ali was also a language movement veteran, founding member of Awami League and a former member of national assembly.
Late Nagina Joha, wife of late Shamsuzzoha, was also a language warrior. She died on March 7, 2016.
Shamsuzzoha's son Nasim Osman has been elected MP from the Jatiya Party several times, his son AKM Salim Osman MP from BMEA and younger son AKM Shamim Osman served as MP on several occasions.
On the occasion of the death anniversary of the late leader, the Holy Quran and Milad have been organised at the residence of Heer Mahal at Chashara, like every year. The family has urged all to participate in the Milad and Dua Mahfil. Besides, the district Awami League and its associate bodies and different social organisations will observe the day with various programmes.
