State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu today (Feb 27) said the price of electricity per unit will be increased by 34-70 paisa before holy Ramadan and summer.

The minister said a gazette notification in this regard can be issued today and will come into effect by March first week.

He made the remark while talking to Journalists at his secretariat office in the capital.

“The government currently, gives subsidy of Tk 43 thousand crore per year on electricity. To come out of this subsidy government will adjust the price of electricity. Therefore, electricity cost per unit will go up by 34-70 paisa and the price will be effective from March first week this year” Nasrul Hamid said.

Gas price will also be adjusted, and the price of gas will also be increased, he added.
