A Dhaka court on Tuesday (Feb 27) placed Murad Hossain Sarker, senior mathematics teacher of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College of Azimpur branch, on a two-day remand in a sexual harassment case.

Murad was arrested from his Kalabagan residence in the capital on Monday midnight following a case filed by a student of that institution.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zaki-Al-Farabi passed the order as police produced Murad before the court seeking a seven-day remand.

Lalbagh Police Station OC Khandaker Mohammad Helal Uddin confirmed regarding Murad’s arrest.

Meanwhile, Viqarunnisa School authorities suspended Murad after an emergency meeting on Monday night.

The mother of the victim student accused the teacher of sexually harassing her daughter in the case filed on Monday evening, the OC said.

After his suspension at night, acting Principal Keka Roy Chowdhury said a high-level committee would be formed by the Divisional Commissioner’s Office to investigate the allegations.

The Principal said the authorities are taking steps against Murad in line with the law, which requires further investigation after his suspension before sacking him.
