Electricity price up by 75 paisa per unit

The government today (Feb 27) increased the price of per unit electricity by 75 paisa.

Earlier, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu said the price of electricity will be increased before holy Ramadan and summer.

Deputy Secretary of Operations Branch-1 of the Ministry of Energy Sheikh Mohammad Belayet Hossain confirmed the matter through a notification.

According to the notification, the public and private power plants, including the rental ones, have to pay Tk 14.75 instead of Tk14 per unit of gas while the captive, small and commercial power plants have to pay Tk 30.75 instead of Tk 30 per unit.

The new price will be effective from this month.

Nasrul Hamid Bipu also said, “The government currently, gives subsidy of Tk 43 thousand crore per year on electricity. To come out of this subsidy government will adjust the price of electricity. Therefore, electricity cost per unit will go up by 34-70 paisa and the price will be effective from March first week this year.”

Gas price will also be adjusted, and the price of gas will also be increased, he added.
