The capital city, Dhaka, experienced a homebound rush a day before Eid ul-Fitr, leading to a surge in toll collection on the Bangabandhu Bridge.
In the last 24 hours, tolls of Tk 3,30,99,400 have been collected from the vehicles that crossed Bangabandhu Bridge as 47,755 vehicles crossed the bridge.
Bangabandhu Bridge Site Office Executive Engineer Ahsanul Kabir Pavel confirmed this information around 10 am on Wednesday (April 10).
He said that the toll was collected at 18 booths in 24 hours from 12:00 am on Monday to 12:00 am on Tuesday.
According to the toll plaza of the bridge and police sources, 15,000 to 20,000 vehicles cross the bridge every day during normal times. However, the traffic pressure more than doubles during Eid holidays.
