At least 13 people were killed and five others injured after a bus collided head-on with a pickup van in Kanaipur area of Faridpur Sadar upazila this morning (April 16).

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

However, all the deceased were initially reported to be the passengers of the pickup van.

MD. Salahuddin Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Karimpur Highway Police Station of Faridpur, said that a Magura-bound bus of Unique Paribahan from Dhaka collided with a Dhaka-bound pickup van leaving eleven people dead on the spot and seven others injured.

One of the injured died on the way and another succumbed to his injuries after they had been brought to Faridpur Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital, said the hospital's resident Physician Dr Asaduzzaman.

Faridpur District Commissioner (DC) Kamrul Ahsan Talukder said a five-member investigation committee was formed by the district administration in this incident. At the same time, the government will give Tk 5 lakh to each family of the deceased and Tk 3 lakh to each of the injured.
