US sanction: Aziz claims of injustice, seeks evidence

Former Chief of Army Staff Aziz Ahmed said that he has been a victim of injustice also expressed deep shock over the US sanctions imposed on him and his family members.

“Even before this, a foreign mass media has staged a drama about me. There is a nexus between the drama and the sanction,” said the former chief of Bangladesh Army Staff on Tuesday.

On May 21, US imposed sanctions on former chief of Bangladesh Army Staff for his indulgence in corruption, effectively restricting his entry into the world's most influential country.

The sanctions also apply to his immediate family members, according to a statement of the US State Department.

Aziz also rejected all allegations brought against him and sought evidences from the US States Department of his indulgence in corruption.

“It is a blatant lie that I sent my younger brother abroad using my power. My younger brother had been staying abroad since before I became the Chief of Army Staff. So, the allegation is baseless,” he said.

Aziz said he is ready to accept any consequences if anyone can prove that he gave any kind of contract to any of his brothers during his three years as Army Chief.

In February 2021, Al-Jazeera published a report titled ‘All the Prime Minister’s Men’ levied various allegations, including corruption, against Aziz.

Both the army headquarters and the Foreign Ministry refuted the report, branding it as ‘false  and slanderous.’
