A driver and his helper were killed as their covered van hit a lorry truck on the Dhaka-Tangail highway at Kalihati upazila in Tangail district on early Saturday (May 25).
The accident happened around 5.30am at Pouli area in the upazila.
The driver of the covered van was identified as Alamgir Hossain, who hailed from the Jashore district, but the details about the helper of the vehicle could not be found immediately.
Elenga fire service in charge Ataur Rahman confirmed the matter.
According to him, a lorry was heading towards Dhaka from the Northern parts of the country. On the way, the covered van hit the lorry truck from behind, leaving the duo dead on the spot.
The bodies of the victims were recovered from the spot and sent to Tangail General Hospital morgue for autopsy, he also said.
Legal actions will be taken in this regard, he added.
Apart from this, eight passengers of a Hanif Paribahan bus sustained injuries when its driver lost control over the steering of the bus and overturned on the road at Bhuiyanpur Link Road area in the upazila.
The injured were taken to a nearby hospital, where the physicians referred one of them to Tangail Sheikh Hasina Medical College Hospital as his condition was critical.
