Traffic movement through the Bangabandhu Tunnel will remain closed from this evening to Monday (May 27) morning as Cyclone Remal is expected to make land fall in the coming hours.
The tunnel’s assistant engineer, Md Nasir Uddin, told the media that the tunnel would remain closed until 6am on Monday.
The flood-gate of the architectural marvel would remain shut during the period to avert risk, he said.
The engineer, however, informed that the tunnel is equipped enough to protect natural disasters, including the tidal surge.
The Deep Depression over West-central Bay and adjoining area moved Northwards intensified into a Cyclonic storm "Remal" first and then into a Severe Cyclonic Storm over Northwest Bay and adjoining area and was centred at 6 am today.
