A Dhaka court today (May 26) ordered the authorities concerned to confiscate 119 more properties belonging to former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed and his family members.
The court ordered the seizure of various property documents, four flats and partial shares owned by Benazir, his wife Zeeshan Mirza, eldest daughter Farheen Rishta Binte Benazir and younger daughter Tahseen Raisa Binte Benazir in different companies.
Judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court passed the order following a hearing after Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Md Hafizul Islam and also the inquiry officer of the matter submitted an application in this regard, said bench assistant of the court.
Earlier, the same court ordered on Thursday ordered to confiscate 345 bighas (114 acre) of land properties in Gopalganj encompassed by 83 deeds and freeze 33 bank accounts of Benazir and his family members.
The ACC has started implementing court orders regarding confiscation and freezing of properties and bank accounts.
Talking to reporters, ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan on Saturday said that the anti-corruption watchdog has started implementing the court’s order to seize assets of Benazir Ahmed, his wife and children on Thursday as part of the investigation.
The ACC has received a copy of the court order and will send to the concerned government agencies and bank authorities, he added.
